The most visited areas around Agde aren’t within the perimeter of the town, but outside. There are three little seaside resort villages that are more like suburbs than rural habitats. It’s here where the fun takes place.

History & Civilisation
Man is present in the region since the early Paleolithic, however remains found in the town are very rare. Several latest deposits attest the presence of habitats in the Neolithic and the protohistoric era. This territory has been affected over prehistoric time by volcanic eruptions, as well as sharp fluctuations of the shoreline, related to the alternating glacial and interglacial periods.
Saint Etienne Cathedral of Agde
The site was first a temple dedicated to the Roman goddess Diana, which was reformed as a 5th century Roman church. Today’s church was built in the 12th century, and lies on the foundation of that Roman church.
